LORD HOWE IN BAD CRASH
Lord Howe met with a ser:ous accident while racing in the Campbell Trophy race, a scratch'226-mile event, at Brooklands last month. It was a terrific duel between Lord Howe and Prince Birabongse, cf Siam. At 20 laps Lord Howe had managed to gain the lead from the Prince. Their speeds down the long stretch on the railway straight were approaching 130 miles'an hour, and it was Howe's more daring cornering which enabled him to keep in front. Looking round to see how far his rival was behind, Lord Howe struck the parapet of the bridge, spun round, and overturned. "Eira" managed.to steer clear. Examination revealed that Lord Howe's injuries consisted of a fractured shoulder blade, six broken ribs, and a broken wrist. He was wearing a crash helmet, and this, judging by the abrasions upon it, saved his life when he struck the concrete.
