SCORIA RUNWAY

MANGERE AERODROME

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, June 17.

. Preparations for landing the Union I Airways aeroplane which was expect!ed to arrive on a test flight from WeUington at 3 o'clock today were I still proceeding at Mangere early this afternoon. A large party of men from the Public Works Department-was working all the morning preparing a scoria runway from the landing field tr- the hangar. Owing to rain the partially-com-pleted runway was somewhat of a quagmire, and there were doubts whethei the large machine could be housed. An alternative plan was to take the machine to the military aerodrome at Hobsonville. However, early this afternoon the officials stated that the runway would be completed in time for reception of the aeroplane, but later itiwas learnt that the flight was not to be made. "
