HUTT POWER BOARD

Consequent on a report' by the engineer and general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands), the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, at its meeting yesterday afternoon, approved of, a substantial reduction in the domestic rates, exclusive of water heating. The reductions, which take effect from the first week in July and give consumers a reduction on their June consumption, represent an ayerage reduction of 11. per cent, spread over the whole of the domestic consumers (lighting, heating, and cooking). The cost to the board will be approximately £9000 a year. The system of reduction is by adjustable discounts, but this does not affect the usual discount now in force for prompt payment. There is also a reduction in the standing horse-power charge of milking motors and farm motors, and a further discount for range hire consumers where the range has been installed for a period. There is also a reduction for commercial lighting consumers. In domestic lighting, heating, and cooking the reduction is in the first ahd second steps of the availability rate in the number of units at 4_d and l_d, with.the adjustable discount and the ordinary discount. The whole of the alterations to the rates will be advertised.
