N.Z. CRICKET TEAM

MIDDLESEX GO CHEAPLY

DUNNING SIX FOR 59

(From the Special Representative of the United Press Association.) (Received June 15, 10 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. When the cricket match between New Zealand and Middlesex was continued at Lord's today the tourists carried their overnight score* from 225 for five wickets to 2GB. Middlesex fell for 212, Dunning taking six wickets for 59 runs, and New Zealand had 153 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets at stumps. The weather was fine but the wicket damp.

New Zealand went from strength to strength today. The first innings was finished in an hour, the changed pacs of the wicket alter rain yesterday affecting the batting. The final total was very useful in the circumstances. The New. Zealand bowlers, ' showing welcome ability to take advantage of favourable conditions, dismissed a strong batting side in under 'four hours. ■ '. • • Dunning, bowling round' the wicket with four fieldsmen at short leg, was constantly menacing, all the batsmen appearing to be fidgety to him except the imperturbable Hendreh. Vivian maintained^excellent length and direction, bowling over an hour unchanged in the morning and an hour and a quarter unchanged after lunch. FINE CATCHING. . Fine catching enhanced the effectiveness of the attack. Page at short leg, and Carson at silly point, made brilliant, one-handed efforts," Donnelly and Wallace took spectacular, running catches on the boundary, and Weir sprinted across from short fine leg to the slips to gather in his. Human, hitting strongly, helped Hendren to add 88 runs for the sixth wicket, and Smith smote lustily, hitting two 6's. ~. New Zealand made a brilliant start in the second innings. Vivian again batted like a life-long opening batsman, and Hadlee played his freest innings of the tour. The partnership produced .50 runs in 45 minutes and 100 in 85 minutes, despite a varied attack -and brilliant fielding. Vivian was delightfully dashing, hitting nine 4's. Hadlee was confidently correct until the second last over, when the wicketkeeper held a difficult chance on the leg-side. Hadlee hit a 5 and four 4's.'
