Light to moderate 'and 'variable winds, but northerly winds soon;setting in and freshening later. . Weather fair to cloudy and rather mild. __ ■'•'.'■,' The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate and variable winds at first. North-westerlies to northerlies, however, will soon prevail and freshen somewhat, especially about Cook and Foveaux Straits. The weather for the most part will still be fair to fine, but some scattered showers are probable in western districts of the South Island and in the far north and south. Temperatures will be moderate. Under the influence of a slight anticyclone situated over the eastern Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand, the weather for the most part has been fair to fine. During last.night, however, a slight depression passing in the south was responsible for some light rain on the West Coast from Taranaki southward and in a few isolated places on the East Coast of the South Island. Some light falls have also occurred in the far north. Westerly or southwesterly winds have predominated. These have been mainly light to mpde-, rate, but strong south-westerlies were blowing late yesterday'afternoon in. the far south. Auckland's weather yesterday was mostly fair, but an •occasional light shower fell, the wind being a light to moderate south-westerly breeze. The night was showery, bringing the total rainfall up to one of seven points. At 9 a.m. today it was fair. • Wellington's weather was fair, "with an increase of cloud in the afternoon, when the. northerly breeze freshened. Hours of bright sunshine totalled 4.3. Christchurch had a fine and sunny morning, but the afternoon was cloudy with a cool easterly breeze. The night was clear and cold! a frost of .seven degrees being registered. At 7 a.m. today a brief shower fell, and the weather subsequently was cloudy with a light breeze from the west-south-west. Dunedin had a fine morning,, but the sky clouded over during the afternoon when a south-westerly wind freshened. The weather this morning was fair with a light south-westerly wind.
