The final- gallops 'for .horses racing at the Great Northern Meeting Were held at Ellerslie this morning, and attracted a large number of spectators. There were several schooling bouts over hurdles on the course proper, and aye horses went together" over the hm. • : , ■..•.. Some good efforts were recorded on the flat,, ariiong them being those of Kelly, Kiitbwyn, Greek Gold, Valmint, Scotland, and Prince Acre. The No. 1 grass track was, available for fast work, and the weather was perfect, though the. going, as the "result of recent:rain, was heavy.., ;' . . VERSANT GOES WELL. < On tlie No. 1 grass track; Tybalt was the first to work, doing six furlongs in lmin 27 4-ssec.' Versant went the last three furlongs of a gallop in 40 l-ssec, and showed {plenty .of dash. Kilonsa j went six furlongs in lmin 26" l-ssec, but did not do her best. Tail Light and Small Boy'finished clear of Collision, with Bass further back, over six furlongs in lmin 22 3-ssec. Over a similar distance, Lockhit was in front of Waitaka in lmin 24 3-ssec. Black Thread and Penriycbme'quick ran half a mile in. 54 3-ssec. Black Thread covered, more ground than his companion. Jewelled Girdle was well clear of Lucidus and Gadger in . a round in 2min 4 2-ssec, the last halfmile taking 58 4-ssec. Farland was ahead of Surella, with Ringshot several length away, over five furlongs in lmin 8 2-ssec. Royal Limond (Beale), Tangled (McDowell), and Pahu (Ridgway) gave a sound display over four hurdles on the course proper. The trio, jumped well. Timed from hurdle'to hurdle, they took lmin 27 2-ssec. MODERN MAID TO FORE. Modern Maid (R. E. Thomson), Englishman (A. Gilmer), and Valpeen (McDowell) were associated over five hurdles, the first-named impressing most. Smith) finished'in that order over four hurdles in lmin 25 3-ssec. > OVER THE HILL. London (J. Day), Thespis (T. Williams), Booklaw (Watson), Tea Chat (Turvey), and Right Royal (Cotter) were associated in a school over a round of the steeplechase course;. They got through their task safely with the exception of Right Royal, who balked at the stone wall at the bottom of the hill. London led throughout, and gave a first-class display. . Thespis afso fenced well, except for, hitting the last obstacle. Booklaw ran round the second fence of the double the first time, but jumped the other obstacles all right. ..
