FORM CRITICISED

CORONATION CEREMONY

UNITED FREE CHURCHMAN'S

VIEWS

LONDON, June 1.

A protest against the Anglican treatment of the Coronation ceremony was made by the Rev. S. W. ; Wilson, Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of 'Scotland, at Glasgow. . * - ■

"It is not spiritual pride but generations of plain Scottish worshipping which make us feel that the Coronation ceremonies are incorporated into the Communion service: of the Anglican Church for the express purpose, it would almost, seem, of warning off trespassing churches," he declared.

"The ceremony would have been no less impressive if it had concluded with the: Communion service of the Presbyterian or Free Churches," he added, and went on: "Does the heart not throb at the thought of that vast assembly of i plenipotentiaries and, alas, potential enemies, being offered the bread and wine in the name of the Lord Jesus, instead of the King and Queen alone?"

Mr. Wilson also said that the time taken over the sword and spurs might have been occupied by rites more pregnant with Christian meaning.
