Special forecast -iox Wellington:—

Strong north-westerly to westerly winds, gale force being reached at times. Weather changeable and squally with occasional rain.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for north-westerly to westerly winds, which later will back in places to the south-west. Winds will be moderate to strong generally, and gale force will be reached in many places south of Kswhia and Napier. Although squally and changeable generally, the weather in eastern districts will, be mainly fair, while in western districts arid in the southern part of the South Island there will be intermittent rain. 'Thunder and hail are. probable. in places. . A deep westerly depression is advancing on to the Dominion, while pressure is relatively lowito the north. Winds since last evening have changed from north-east to north-west, and this morning they, were still moderate to strong and in places were reaching gala force. Mild, dull, and misty weather, with rain, has been experienced. Some heavy falls of rain have occurred in places, especially in the far north and in the western and central .districts, but very little rain has fallen so far on the east coast of the South Island. This morning generally saw the weather much improved, but this improvement is likely to be of brief i duration only. . ' '. Auckland had a strong' and squally north-easterly wind yesterday. The weather was unsettled and rain, totalling 61 points, fell during' the afterI noon 'and at' night At. 9 a.m. today, however^ it was fine and calm. v In Wellington it was mild, dull, and threatening, with occasional light showers, only 0.9 hours of bright-sun-shine being recorded. Heavy, rain fell last night between 9.20 and 11 p.m., the total fall being 53 points. A strong and squally north-westerly wind reached a maximum this morning at 11 a.ril. with a gust of-66 miles an hour.

In Christchurch; yesterday it was mostly overcast, but there was a little sunshine in the early afternoon. A fresh north-easterly wind prevailed. At 9 a.m. today it was fine and clear with a gentle north-easterly wind.

In Dunedin too, it was mostly overcast, with a north-easterly breeze and mild temperatures. The weather this morning was clear with a gentle breeze from the north-west. n
