YOUNG ARTISTS

A BRIGHT REVUE

Talented young Wellington artists were seen in bright entertainment last night when "Embankment Nights" was presented by the Wellington Juvenile; Amateur Theatrical Society in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall. With amusing dialogue and. divers characters, this comedy, in one act was well received by the audience. Preceding the main attraction were items of a colourful and entertaining nature. Commencing with a briskly-played overture and a bright opening chorus, "One By One" the company presented solo items which reflected credit on the youthful artists. Songs were presented by Pat Collins and Billy Goodfellow. Attractive dances were . performed by Ben Hutchinson, Alexander Grant, Shirley Adams, Doreen Dickenson, and Dolores Emden, and recitations and a clever song and dance were given by Jean Kefr, Doreen Muir, and Beryl Richardson. A feature of the first half was the tap ballet presented by David Devitt. „ , • , , "Embankment Nights," which formed the second half of the programme, gave an amusing picture of Old Adam (Ken Payne, ; played excellently) a typical down-and-out -of the London Embankment. ■■ The story concerns those who pass in the night, give their little item for Adam's benefit, and drift on. Notable character parts were those of the 'parson (Assheton Harbord), street singer (Hilda Freeman), William and. Fay ' (Lindsay Constable and Valeric Luff), and the grim lady with tracts (Shirley Tipling). All the parts were played with vigour. Others who took part were Colin Young, Phoebe Lawson, Irene Clarkson, Leah Kerr Ivan Lawson, and Jean Cerchi (who sang delightfully). The accompanist was Mrs. F. Roselyn Walker, the ballet master Mr. David Devitt, and the producer Mr. Assheton Harbord, who is to be congratulated on a successful show. ■ ■ :
