INCREASED DEMAND
'; Figures just issued in the April Buli letin' of the International Tin Research i.and Development Council, published 'by The Hague Statistical Office, give Jthe world production of ,tin' for the {•first quarter. of the current year as tons, against 39,065 tons in the corresponding quarter of 1936. World 'production for the year ended March, ;,1937, totalled 177,400 tons, against ?147,000 tons in the previous twelve »months. World consumption statistics / are available only ,up to the end of .February, the total for the year ended 1937, being 160,391. tons,. ■ which represents an. increase of about ;1i per.cent, over the figure for the '■' previous year. :'■■ "■ The tihplate and automobile indus- ,* tries* are: contributing -very * substantially tj the increased tin consumption ft this year.' In the year ended February, ,:'1937, 62,700 tons'of tin were used, in fthe world tinplate industry, against 1. 52,800 .tons in the preceding year, "while the world motor industry is ■■ estimated to have used 13,500 tons, .= against 11,S00 tons. ■"■ In January-February, 1937, world ■••■ production .of tinplate amounted to :,'662,000 tons,-against 553,000 tons in '-. January-February, 1936.
