BRIEF AND SIMPLE
DUKE OF WINDSOR'S WEDDING
ONLY TWO WITNESSES
LONDON, May 19.
Mr. Dudley Forwood, the Duke of Windsor's equerry, visited Buckingham Palace yesterday. He told the: "Daily Mail" that about 20 of the Duke's personal friends wbuld be invited from England to the wedding of the Duke and Mrs. Wallis Warfield, which will take place at the Chateau1 de Cande, near Tours. France, on June 3.
The special correspondent of the "Daily Mail" at Tours says that the French civil marriage ceremony is very brief and. simple.: Only two witnesses are required, one for the bride and one for-the bridegroom.1. : The procedure is as follows:—The Mayor of Monts, turning to the Duke, will' say: "Do you, Edward Albert, Duke of Windsor, take Wallis Warfiela to be your lawful wedded wife?" The Duke assenting, the Mayor will then turn to Mrs. Warfield, and say: "Do you, Wallis Warfield, take Edward Albert, Duke of Windsor, to be your lawful wedded husband?" Mrs. Warfield also assenting? the Mayor will say: "In the name of the law I declare you united in the bonds of marriage." The Mayor will then read Articles 213, 214, and 215 of the civil code, denning, with typical French. brevity, the obligations of married life. The Mayor will next hand -the Duke of Windsor the marriage certificate-
; This would normally end the ceremony, but owing to the taking place at the chateau instead of the Town Hall, the Mayor, will say: "We have come to the chateau" to perform, under dispensation of the Procurer of the Republic, this marriage in the presence of these two_^ witnesses." No religious ceremony is planned.
A message from Paris states that Mrs. Warfield has completed her trousseau, which includes 48 dresses : from a leading Paris costumiere.
