YOUNG HUSBAND'S SUICIDE
TROUBLED ABOUT MONEY

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
Twelve days after he was married Alick Edward Smith, of Hornby, shot himself. His body was found in his car near Waikari with a photograph of his wife in his left hand. "I am going silly with worry. This is better than being locked up all my life. I hope you will, not miss me too much." These statements were contained in a note left by Smith for his wife. . - ■ A verdict of death by a gunshot wound self-inflicted while temporarily insane was returned by the Coroner, Mr. H. A. Young. '
Smith, who was 23 years of age, was employed as a teamster .it the Templeton Farm School. . , ■'It is quite an affectior.ate note about you; he does not attribute it to you at all,-"-, said the Coroner to the wife. "Apparently he was worrying needlessly about money." Mrs. Smith gave evidence that her husband had told her of a number of business ■ matters which he was completing .but she found the statements to-be false.-'- . -;.'. v.; ? ; ; -
