EVENING CHURCH SERVICE

■ An eloquent appeal to the people of New Zealand to proffer their sincere wishes to the new King and Queen for a long and prosperous reign, was made by the Rev. L.J. Boulton-Smith in an address at a special united Coronation service held in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, last evening.

The King, said Mr. Boulton-Smith, had dedicated himself to the service of the people, and each of his subjects, in his respective sphere, should work honourably and in a spirit of unity and selflessness towards the greater development and happiness of the world. Their Majesties would carry on and enhance the traditions of the great Commonwealth of Nations, and would always "have the interest and welfare of their many peoples at heart. It behoved everyone to follow in their footsteps,' and thus make the, British Empire an example for all other nations.

Clergymen of other denominations were represented on the platform, those officiating, in addition to the Rev. L. J. Boulton-Smith, being the Rev. W. Gilmour, Major Nelson, of the Salvation Army, who read the Scripture lesson, the Rev. H. W. Newell, Pastor A. C. Saunders, the Rev. P. Paris, and/the Rev. A. Muriel. Special souvenir programmes were issued, and a combined choir, under the baton of Mr. H. E. Wilson, sang the hymn "All People that on Earth do' Dwell," Te Deum Laudamus, and the "Hallelujah Chorus."
