DOUBLE SHOT VERY FIT

Uiy Telegraph—Presg Association.) INVERCARGILL, May 11. ' The weather was fine for the final gallops at Invercargill this morning, but a heavy frost on top of rain left the track heavier than ever.- The No. 2 grass was in use and most of the work was of a serviceable nature. Milford was going better than Hunting Go at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 37sec. Milford had a pull in the weights and could have done better. Both horses are in excellent order for tomorrow's engagements. Galleon and Corban, after cantering once round on the sand track, pulled on to the grass, and, increasing the pace at the six, came home the last three furlongs in 42 l^sec. Moneyless jumped away from the seven furlongs and, picked up by Double Shot approaching' the half-mile, took lmin 38sec, the last half-mile in 56sec, with Double Shot, who had nearly two stone advantage, drawing right away over the final 100 yards. Double Shot revelled in the going, but Moneyless did well after covering more ground than his stablemate. Amelita was held back to Red Treasure over the concluding stages of : five furlongs. Amelita, who was keen to increase the pace, is in first-class order. Ardchoille went twice round and came home the last half-mile at a good swinging pace. He slipped about in the going and struck himself behind, there being a slight bleeding from the coronet of his off»hlnd leg. Pala Melba just shaded Western Song at the end of six furlongs in 1 lmin 27 4-ssec. Fog Peak and Polar ! Star were not bustled to run half a ■ mile in 59 4-ssec, and Golden Song ; took lmin 14sec to traverse five fur- • longs. Signaller and Golden Lap- were re- ; stricted to easy pace work. One of 1 Golden Lap's legs has filled and he : is an unlikely starter tomorrow. Sail- ' ing Lady was also worked.
