"A SIMPLE CASE OF FRAUD"
-; "This is a simple case of fraud," said Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach in the Magistrate's Court today when David Rosenthai, alias David Rozenthal, alias David Ross, a draper, aged 27, pleaded guilty to obtaining credit from a taxi driver to the extent of £5 10s by fraud.
Sub-Inspector. Roach said" that last night the defendant engaged a taxi to Mas.terton, representing that he had £25 in his pocket, whereas in fact he was on sustenance, and had very little money. .He invited three others to make the trip. In 1933, the. defendant had been sentenced to,reformative detention for a year,. on two. charges of theft. Two pounds qf the taxi fare were for the return journey to Wellington. '..'.'.,
The accused said that he would pay back the £5 10s if given a chance. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence in four weeks, the interval being to give him an .opportunity to make the payment. ' " '■ ■■' •
