SEVERE HURRICANE

AWATEA BUFFETED

SYDNEY, May 7,

Captain Davey, master of the transTasman express liner Awatea, .which arrived today from New Zealand, said that on Wednesday morning the Awatea ran into a severe hurricane which was worse than the one experienced a fortnight ago. It.brought up a high, confused sea. A particularly high wave struck a light standard and bent it like a hairpin. The Awatea passed the Marama at 7.40' p.m. on Thursday. The Marama and the Niagara are both running late and are expected to arrive on Saturday morning. ■' ; ■ ■
