BANANAS BY THE POUND
(To the Editor.) Sir,—-The fruit retailers of Wellington have informed us ; that they intend, as from June 1, to retail bananas by the pound, and not by the vdozen as at present. This alteration they "felt would be of benefit both to the public and ■to the trade." I submit, Sir,-.'that it'is absurd for the retailers to; radically alter a method of selling to the public on mere- "feeling," and : doubly so; to state that this feeling was for the welfare of the public. Does the change mean that they will be able to charge' 'more- for bananas' sold at so much "per pound," then by the clearcut method of so ■ much "per dozen." Let the retailers prove .the motive for the alteration to": be' good and sound, "instead of! trying- to1 start ,'a new selling ; method upon the public as the fer suit' of ra . mere alleged "feeling."—-I am, etc., .■ ■•-.■■', .. . . - .
