(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Recently with great flourish the Railway Department announced a newscale of weekly trip tickets for suburban areas up to, twenty miles, and stated the new rates would operate as Erom May 3. These rates stated as follows—giving a few examples:— ■ New suburban .Present • weekly weekly.... Miles; ; 12-trip. 12-trip,. ■■ .:.,■■■■. , ■■' -s. d. .■■: .s. d. 11 ...... 4 6 6 6 14 5 2 8 0 17 ...... 5 6 ' 9 6 20 , ...... 511 11 0. Great enthusiasm was aroused among the residents of these outlying suburbs, but a rude shock was administered to residents beyond Johnsonville - when they were told that these new ■ rates do not apply to them. Residents of Tawa Flat, Porirua, Paremata, and Plimmerton, although all within : the stated twenty'miles and all-in, the suburban area, are denied any reduction and must still pay the 6s 6d to 11s asked at present. What is the reason for this ? -I am b^ciusT _^
