INCOME TAX RETURNS
Between now and the first day of June the annual struggle with incometax forms will reach its height.' By June 1, every person or company, whether a taxpayer or not, having derived income within the meaning of the Act. i; required to furnish the Com ■ mtssioner of Taxes with all details concerning his, her, or, its earnings, and income during the twelve months ended on March 31,; 1937. If this is not done, the defaulter is> liable to be fined anything up to £100. The basis, of- assessing the tax payment, and the amount of the tax, are secrets that; are not disclosed until the; Budget is brought down in Parliament, generally in August or September. As Parlia-. ment this year is not to be called together until some time in August, ir is probable that the Budget will be tabled a little later than usual, though it is the Government's intention to bring it down as soon as possible after the Address-in-Reply debate is disposed of. • : . ■/,;■■; ' ; i i ■ ♦ ■ ■■. . .
