FIRST CHOICE OF PLAYERS
If OTHERS WILL BE IN THE RUNNING
The choice of the Wellington players to train in view of the match with Canterbury at Athletic Park next Wednesday (Coronation Day) has given rise to some comment on the fact that the selector has not gone far beyond players who figured in last year's representative matches. However, with so little opportunity of 'judging die merits of players on this season's form, it was only to be expected that the selection would be based mainly on last year's performances. It is to be remembered that the first representative engagement has been fixed for a date much earlier than usual, and that theije is good time yet for players to make their way into the representative side for future engagements. Of course, it is something toi gain a first footing, but the players chosen for next Wednesdayis match will find that there are many others pressing strong clahrisffor places in Wellington teams for subsequent engagements, •including that with the Springboks.
