GALLERY EVENING
INTERESTING PRIVATE VIEW
, A very happy social occasion is the "private view" of the pictures sent in for exhibition at the Art Gallery, and last night there was such a large attendance, and the visitors seemed so much interested in the work, that it was particularly successful.
: No one who has recollections of the old gallery can help rejoicing in the comfort and stateliness of the new gallery, or in its excellent lighting, which adds so much to the value of the "view." \ .
Mr. Eweh (president) made his usual courteous and' interesting introduction, and Professor Shelley gave an informative talk about art subjects (reported elsewhere). ' Mr. and Mrs. Lamorna Birch (who have made many warm friends) were present, and were the centre of various groups during the whole evening. Mrs. Ewen was in a handsome frock, of black chiffon
