WEST COAST OBJECTION

GREYMOUTH, May 6.

The Grey County Council tonight decided to support the Inangahua County Council's decision against amalgamation as requested by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), and to advise the Minister, that it saw no reason why there should be amalgamation. " A conference of both councils discussed the matter at length. It was. pointed out that rating in the Inangahua County was on u»;-nproved value and in the Grey County on capital value. Speakers expressed the opinion that merging would result in the adoption for the whole area of rating on capital value, which, it was contended for the Inangahua Council, would cripple the quartz-mining industry.

The resolution was adopted with one dissentient.
