SOUTH AFRICAN WOOL
A cablegram received by the Australian Wool Growers' Council from the South African Wool Council, under date March 20, furnished the following information in respect of the period from July 1, 1936, to February 28, 1937:—Total quantity received into store, 640,000 bales; total quantity offered at auction, 653,000 bales; quantity sold at auction, 72 per cent.; total quantity disposed of (inclusive of auction and out of hand sales and by shipment), 636,000 bales; unsold wool on hand, 26,000 bales; average value per bale of greasy wool (South African currency), £16 Is 3d; average value per lb of greasy wool (South African currency), Is 0 3-Bd. Wool growers have been formally notified that, the payment of subsidy —which has undergone a process ot gradual reduction during the past two seasons—will cease entirely after June 30 this year, that is on wool sold after that date.
