SPORTING

ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

WINTER ASPIRANTS

BONNIE ROLLOX SCHOOLED

(By "Rangatira.")

Though the tracks at Trentham are quite busy at present, most of the work being done is with the rising two-year-olds and other new stock in preparation for next season's racing. The centre will have at most only ten or eleven horses racing next week at Otaki, and another three will be going to the Egmont Meeting. Some of T. R. George's team are included in the Hawke's Bay fields, but none will be undertaking this trip.

The main interest in this morning's work .was a further school by the Australian importation Bonnie Rollox. Some galloping was also done on the trial grass, which was soft after heavy overnight showers. .

Bonnie Rollox was schooled by A. Tudor, as P. Burgess is at present indisposed as the result of a chill. Tudor took him over three of the bigger fences and then a couple of the schooling hurdles, and, without much pace on, he jumped them splendidly. He was put over the hurdles at a faster bat, and when he pulled up he was blowing a good deal. Except that he is rather big, he looks well.

The school was witnessed by the chestnut's owner, Mr. R. J. Murphy, who was pleased with the display. Bonnie Eollox is to be sent up for the Egmont Meeting next week, and, all goin^ well, he will go on to Te Rapa and Ellerslie. As P. Burgess will probably be riding for J. Fryer at Hawera, Bonnie Rollox is at present without a pilot, but George has a number of requests for the mount.

The best gallop of the morning was a half-mile in '52 2-ssec by Myriam (J. Nicolson) and Marcus Cicero (W. Doyle.) Marcus Cicero was leading till near the post, but Myriam then swept up just to shade her mate.

Myriam is booked for the Egmont Meeting, where she will probably be ridden by W. J. Broughton. She will be accompanied by her stablemate Arctic King, who will be handled by P. Burgess. Arctic King did easy work only this morning, but looks, as well as a gawky horse can.-

Marcus Cicero will be one of George's team for Otaki, the others being Boomerang, Acceptable, Galteemore, and probably Darecourt. The lastnamed is also in at Egmont, but present intentions are to race him at Otaki.

Boomerang (S. Wilson) was responsible for a pleasing trial in beating Darecourt (Doyle) by five lengths over a mile in lmin 50 3-ssec, the last halfmile, over the heavier going, taking 57sec. Boomerang revels in the heavy stuff and he may not be long in winning a good winter stake. Korero (R. Lorigan) took lmin 56seq for a mile, each half in 58sec. Galloping without the special bandage, he still pulled up well. Rona Bay (Lorigan), whose Otaki trip is doubtful because of the heavy track that now seems certain. repeated Korero's figures. Sunny Blonde (Lorigan) did a smooth six furlongs in lmin 22sec, the 'last half-mile in 55sec. She is a fit mare at present. Impersonater (Wilson) took lmin 27sec for six furlongs, but he was not after time. Alunga, Acceptable, Galteemore, and Laggard, other Otaki entrants, were accorded exercise tasks only. The steeplechaser Paddy's' Maid was worked over a couple of rounds, each time' sprinting down the straight. ■

S. Wilson, will be riding at Hastings on Saturday and at Otaki next Week. His Hawke* Bay mounts will include Catalogue, Seyfried, and Lacquer, and at Otaki he will be on Boomerang, Diamond Cutter, Royal Portrait, Impersonater, and Gladium. Paddy's Maid is to be ridden next week by M. Reardon.
