N.Z. GOLF COUNCIL

FEES FOR RESEARCH

THIRD PARTY INSURANCE

An opinion on an examination of the conditions of the third party insurance policy of the New Zealand Golf Association was read and discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council yesterday. It was agreed that the policy is now a satisfactory cover, but it was resolved to point out to the affiliated clubs that claims made by professionals or caddies for accidents occurring to them due to the negligence of a member or an official are not covered under the policy and should be covered by the club under a workers' compensation policy.

The standard scratch scores were confirmed for Manor Park (70) and Titahi (72).

Letters were received from southern clubs expressing appreciation of the visit of Mr. W. M. Horton, the research committee's advisory officer. Mr. Horton is at present making a tour of the North Island clubs. The council noted that bowling clubs particularly, and, to some extent, tennis clubs, are taking advantage, of Mr. Horton's services in an advisory capacity, and it was resolved to write to the controlling bodies of these sports pointing out that the association is spending over £500 per annum upon the work connected with the experimental plots and the advisory . officer's services, whilst other sports organisations availing themselves of the benefit of Mr. Horton's advice are not contributing anything except the fees on the same scale as are paid by clubs affiliated to the Golf Association. It was resolved to point out to the controlling bodies of bowls and tennis that it would be reasonable to expect from them some contribution towards the overhead cost of the work which is being carried out in the interests of all sports clubs in which good turf is an essential matter.
