PEDIGREE DOGS

N.Z. KENNEL CLUB'S REQUEST

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, April 29.

Sole' rights to register pedigree dogs and-to hold pedigree dog shows in New Zealand were sought by a deputation representing the New Zealand Kennel Club, which waited on the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. X Parry). The deputation was led by the president of the club, Mr. Norman Wade.

The club had been for many years the recognised medium through which pedigree dogs were 'registered, Mr. Wade said. At present, however, anybody could register dogs; and many people had suffered as the result of registering their dogs with organisations which had no recognised status. The club was not anxious to interfere with greyhound or whippet racing organisations, and it had the support of the gun-dog clubs and working collie clubs. Affiliated to the organisation were 60 clubs throughout New Zealand.

The Minister said he thought such a move as the club requested would tend to create conditions conducive to the better breeding of dogs and a reduction in mongrels. He promised to give the matter every consideration he felt it merited.
