Neilson (secretary)On behalf of those members of last year's management committee who had been elected to the executive, the chairman extended a welcome to Messrs. Prendeville and Kitto, the other two members of the executive who had been elected at the annual meeting. ASSISTING TEAMS TO TOUR. The question of financial assistance to unions in sending teams on tour w« raised when an application was le ceived from the North Otago Rugby Union for a grant of £150. It was North Otago's intention, if financial arrangements permitted, to send a team on tour to play matches with Manawatu (August 28), Taranaki (September 1), Wanganui (September 4), Wairarapa (September 8), and Canterbury (September 11). Mr. Prendeville said that when some unions had been given full status (North Otago being one) there was a distinct understanding that they would not seek matches with major unions. That understanding had now broken down, and the consequences were to be seen. Mr. Kitlo drew attention to the fact that on numerous occasions unions had> been helped in the matter of tours. He and others thought that the North Otago Union might be asked to furnish 'a statement as to what assistance they were receiving from the unions they 'proposed to visit and giving details of the money that had been raised from carnivals;'etc. It was decided to ask North Otago to submit a- statement on those lines. KANFURLY SHIELD. Notification was given by the Marlborough Rugby Union of its having challenged Otago to a special match for the Ranfurly Shield. The chairman said that the union had always laid down that challenges in the ordinary course of a tour should take <■ precedence over.". special challenges. They ought to tell Otago that they would be glad to know what ■arrangement had been made. , It was decided to adopt the course suggested,by the chairman. ■SUB-COMMITTEES. .-. • ,' The following sub-committees were appointed:— : .
