AID FOR FIRE FIGHTERS
Shooting powerful sprays of water from' special jets, a novel machine recently tested in England is a new aid to'fire fighting. The apparatus consists of a three-wheeled truck which .draws a •■trailer tank having a water capacity of 1200 gallons. In addition to numerous' adjustable' spraying jets,' the portable tank carries lengths of hose on reels mouqted over the rear fenders. Backed against the side of a burning building, the machine - drenches the surface with a wall of water. In certain cases, the apparatus can be backed through a doorway directly into a blazing structure to radiate sheets of water in all directions. Another suggested use for the apparatus is for extinguishing oil fires. When.not needed as.a.fireffigHtirig.unit, the tank;will be used for street/cleaning. In , case of a wartime gas :attack, the machine can be' adapted' to spray streets and buildings with chemical solution designed to counteract the poisonous effects of the gas.
