FOUR CONVICTIONS
ROMAN CATHOLICS IN GERMANY

Four out of seven Roman Catholic* including two priests, who were charged with supporting plans for a united Communist-Catholic front, were convicted of treason. Father Rossaint, of Dusseldorf, was sentenced to. eleven years' imprisonment, and the others to shorter terms. The remaining: threa were acquitted. It was a farcical trial, with the decision a foregone conclusion, tha president being hostile throughout. In summing up the president said: "The welfare of the people is the supreme law. Anyone who dares to touch the outward form of t a community of German people is guilty of the worst crime."
