Mr. E. Hollis, who was elected to the council of the New Zealand Football Association at the annual meeting of the association recently, was welcomed by the; chairman (Mr. J.. A. Milburci) at the first meeting of the new council last night. Mr. Milburn referred to Mr. Hollis's many years' experience in the game, which he said should prove of great help, to the council.
Mr. J. A. Milburn was re-elected chairman of the council of the New Zealand Football Association at the first meeting of the newly-elected council last night. Mr. Frank Campbell was elected vice-chairman.
A motion of sympathy with Mr. L. J. Brabin, who had received news of the death in Australia of his mother, was passed at this week's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's management committee.
Feeling reference to Mr. McKenzie's death was made by Mr. J. H. Phillipps (chairman) at a meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's management committee. Mr. McKenzie's services to cricket, as an administrator, a'elector, and an umpire, were known from North Cape to the Blult, he said, and had been carried out with very great success. Wellington cricket in particular and the game throughout New Zealand had lost a very staunch supporter. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. McKenzie was passed, all present standing in silence.
The Rev. J. M. Beaufort, joint headmaster of St. Peter's School, Cambridge, will leave for England from Auckland on May 19, accompanied by Mrs. Beaufort.
Mr. T. F. McMullen, until ■ lately manager of the Auckland branch of the Union Bank of. Australia, who has been transferred to Perth, left on Monday by the Aorangi for Sydney, accompanied by Mrs. McMullen.
Mr. J. T. Bryant, of Matangi, a director of the New Zealan.d Co-operative Dairy Company, left Auckland by the Aorangi on Monday night for Sydney. He intends to make an extended tour of Britain and the Continent.
Mr. F. D. McGovern, Auckland manager of the Bank of New South Wales, left by the Aorangi on- Monday on a business visit to Sydney and Melbourne. During his absence Mr. N. G. Packer will be acting manager.
Mr.'F. J. Wilson, manager in Auckland for V<;ight, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., has been appointed general manager for Alfred r-;ckland and Sons, Ltd. Mr. Wilson will take over - his new duties at an early date.
Dr. J. A. Stallworthy, formerly' of Auckland, has been appointed to the staff of the Chelsea Hospital. He went to London in 1934 as holder of the New Zealand Obstetrical Scholarship, and became a member of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (London) the following year, gaining his F.R.C.S. at the end of 1936.
Dr. J. W. Craven, medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, left for Sydney by the Aorangi on Monday, and will be absent for Ihree weeks. He will represent the Auckland Hospital Board at a cancer conference at Canberra next week, and later will study administrative methods and inspect equipment at Sydney and Melbourne hospitals.
Messrs. K. E. Luke, Wellington city engineer, and M. Cable, Wellington tramways manager and engineer, have been appointed joint engineers to the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company.
Mr. J. R. McKenzie arrived in Wellington this morning from the South Island.
Mr. R. E. Tolhurst, accompanied by Mrs. Tolhurst, was a passenger from the south this morning.
Mr.. L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Government Tourist Department, arrived in Wellington from the south this morning.
Mr. C. W. Rattray, a director of the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived in Wellington this morning from the South Island.
Mr. F. W. Grainger arrived in Wellington this morning from the south.
