AUCKLAND UNLUCKY
HOLIDAYS RUINED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, March 28.
The Easter holidays to date have been completely ruined by heavy rain and a strong gale. Practically all athletic fixtures were abandoned on Saturday and for the first time for years the Auckland Racing Club's opening day at Ellerslie had to be postponed. The rain eased this afternoon, but conditions were still threatening.
Many motorists who left for holiday resorts have returned home, while hundreds of yachts and launches which would have been making cruises remain at their moorings.
Following an unfavourable Christmas many shopkeepers at seaside resorts who rely almost entirely on holiday business are in financial difficulties.
