DEBHAM VERY FIT

FINAL TRENTHAM TRIALS

Trentham horses engaged-at, the Wairarapa Meeting were given their final serious trials this morning. The weather was heavily overcast, thbugh quite cairn, and light, rain .overnight made the trial grass a little slippery in parts.' Both the grass and the plough were in use, but the work was princioally done on the grass. Debham, Darecourt. Myriam, Roaming, and Girl Pat were among the best workers. Haupangi (C. Burgess) and Good Sun (L. Nesbitt) ran half a mile'together in 50 2-ssec, and there was nothing between them, .with .Haupangi, on the inner, going apparently as well as his better-seasoned mate at, the end. DEFICIT WELL BEATEN. Accomplice (8..E.-Edwards) finished several lengths clear of Deficit' (R. Morris) after running five furlongs, but it was not a satisfactory trial, as Deficit bled a little arid the'two-year-old was solo most of the way. The-trine was: lmin 7 2-ssecL the last- half-mile in 54sec. "Deficit is carrying more condition than ever previously, which, might be the cause of his bleeding. . Debham (Edwards) moved- very smoothly in leaving Korero (F. Boxall) more and more in his wake-'till-he finished half-a furlorig: in''front at. the. end Of a mile in-lmih\4ssec,; the last half-mile, in 51 3-ssec. "This- was -a oarticularly good efTort.-..by Debham, and if he stays but the-teri - furlongs he will be in the fight at the 'close of the Easter Handicap; at Tauherenikau on Sktur.day. 'No rider'I'lias: yet. been secured for him, but- if Geitel should not; start L. Faulkiner'.may be in the saddle. K'drero'had a "great deal more, weight in his,saddle,than D.ebham, but he is -generally a •poor worker- on the track..yfi,.. ,-', ■■'■, ."."'J..V--', : . .-.••• ''■-.■■■;

Boorrierang (R. Webster) went.better thah on Tuesday..?in shading Alunga (A. Sim) at.'.'the end-of .six furlongs in, Imin 18sec, -the last half-mile in 52see. • It was, however,1 nothing out of'the ordinary as a'gallon, arid Alunga might have, again been, in front if he hajd'not slipped .about on.the greasy surface over the last portion. Boomerang . will be . ridden on Saturday by A., Behnet; .-who -will;also be on Galteempre, arid; Quexona, but Alunga is still without a-tiderv '

Roha- Bay. '(R^ Ldrigan) went | pleasingly, over ', a mile on her . own in 1mih,.48 ;3:ssecj the last half-mile in 53 sec. Arctic King (Edwards) took Imin 52sec, each half in. 56sec, but he was hot really against the watch: ', . Myriarn (J; Nicblson) drew out froln ReVjval (Edwards)'at the end of seven furlongs, finishing three lengths in front in Imin 32sec, the last half-mile in '53 l-ssec. Myriam goes south to Christchurch; with Arctic .King tomorrow, night,, and, according to their trairier, .each- will definitely be ridden by Nicolson. Revival's Tauherenikau pilot is R. Marsh. Girl Pat (Nicolson), and Liane (Edwards) were' tpgether •' over most of their , half-mile,. but Girl Pat finished ori,,the better to record 50 3-ssec, ■ Laggard did a mile at three-parts pace. DARECOtJRT GOES WELL. Perhaps, the best trial of the,morning Over a short course was done by Darecourt (Webster) and- Galteemore (Bennet), who ran five furlongs in Imin 3 3-fisec, the last half-mile in 50 sec Galteemore, who is. lazy, was hard ridden to make 'the figure's, but Darecourt was on the bit 'all the",way. Track work indicates that Darecourt should be likelier in the open mile on Saturday than his jStablemate Boomerang, but'the .latter has that touch of class thaj often prevails in races. On,the plough Roaming. ,'(L. Harding) beat Geitel (Faulkirier)' by three lengths over, seven furlongs, in Imin 30s*ec. Roaming does not race, again till Manawatu. , Hot Dance (R. Get,,rarid) was half ■ a length in front of Quexona (Sim) after going three furlongs in 37s;ec. Acceptable (M. .Reardon) ran half a mile oh' this1 track, but. was riot, timed. . .... Impersonater,>'who is now trained, at Trentharri. by L. Browne, is a late worker and he had ript made an appearance when "the ordinary galloping was over. Pladie and Nelumbo , went across to Wairarapa yesterday, and Red Sun arid Sunee left,for the south last evening. : ■. , .S. .Wilson will be .riding ;, at the Feilding Meeting over the weekend, arid his mounts wil\ include members of L. G. Morris's team and also Catalogue. He went up to Martbn yesterday to do ridirii work there this morning. According to information received at' Trentham the Hawera tralner^O. Cox is likely to have, both Friesland arid Lqwenberg , rafcirig at Tauherenikau, instead "of splitting his team, and in this.-case Friesland's..race on Saturday will be .the. open mile instead of the Easter Handicap.
