OPTIMISTS' CLUB

MEMBERSHIP INCREASE

The V.M.C.A. Optimists' Club held ■its annual meeting on Tuesday evening. Mr. R. H. D. Hall, immediate past Chief Optimist, presided. Community singing was led by Mr. W. H. Hindle, with Mr. J. N. Duncan at the piano, and items were given- by Messrs. Will McKeon and Will J. Mason.

Following the initiation of new members, the annual report for the 1936 season was presented. by the secretary, Mr. -N. N. Breen, and was adopted. The report made .reference to, the death of Mr. G. Herfort, and also to the serious illness of Mr. G. M. Silver. An' increase in membership over the period and a small financial surplus were revealed in the report. Mr. J. F. Buckrell was installed as Chief Optimist for the ensuing season. In a brief address, he urged members to consider seriously the true implications of the term "optimism." Other officers elected were:—First deputy chief, Mr. D. L. Gibson; second deputy chief, general secretary of the association (Mr. 'Len. J. Greenberg); immediate past Chief Optirhist, Mr. R. H, D/ Hall; hon. secretary, Mr. N. Nl. Breen; sheriff, Mr. J. G. Oliver; padre, the Rev. Wm. Gilmour; musical directors,' Messrs. W. H. Hindle and J. N. Duncan; convener of service committee, Mr. H. E. Brooker; fellowship and look-out committee, joint .conveners, Messrs. G. I. B. Thomas and W. H. J. Christie; convener luncheon, hospitality committee, Mr. J. F. Johnson; staff representative, Mr. J. White.

Fruit Egg-Nogg.—Beat the yolk of one egg until thick. Add 2 tab'lespoonfuls of any desired fruit. syrup and add li cupfuls of good rich milk or I cupful of condensed milk diluted with an equal amount of ice water. Pour into a tall glass, top with the stifflybeaten egg white and sprinkle with nutmeg.
