BOARD'S DILEMMA
ILLNESS OF CHAIRMAN
SUBSIDY CLAIM HELD UP
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N,, This Day.
Because the chairman of the Pal-1 merston North Hospital Board is at. present seriously ill and is thus un-, able to sign official documents, the board finds itself unable to collect «ij subsidy from the Health Department. The position is that only the signature | of the chairman will be recognised and ' acted upon. The Department advised the board yesterday that notwithstanding a~declaration and statement signed by the acting chairman, it was unable to arrange payment. The law made no provision for the acceptance of a deputy's signature. There was no alternative but to return the forms for re-execution when it was possible for that to be done. Tho acting chairman, Mr. J. A. Nash, stated that what was required was validating legislation to allow the matter to go through. The managing secretary, Mr. A. J. Phillipps, was authorised to interview I the Government on the matter.
The claim is for a subsidy of £9085 95.2 d.
