The Australian apprentice A. Bennet has been granted an apprentice licence in- New Zealand, and he will do some of the riding for T. R. Georges stable at the WairSrar-a Meeting on Saturday and Monday. Wildflower has beer, rehandicapped 61b, making her weignt 9.4 in tje Onslow Handicap at the Auckland Racing Club's Meeting. G. H. Humphries has been offered mounts if-he comes, north for the first day of the Wairarapa Meeting, and one of his rides would be Debham in the Easter Handicap.
Early ■ training hours will cease at Trentham this week, and next week the tracks will not be opened till 8 a.m. The change-over is a fortnight or so earlier than usual this year.
Cloak, who figures among the acceptances for the Nursery - Handicap at Tauherenikau 'on Saturday is the Thespian mare Habit's first foal. She is by Vaals, and, like her; dam, she is black. She will run in the colours of her breeder, Mr. H. Manaway.
Prince Mulla, having his first start, ran quite a fairTace at Pahiatua last week, and, though he may still find the company at "Wairarapa this weekend a little strong meanwhile, he should grace the winners' list in due course. He is a three-year-old halfbrother by Mullaboden to Myriam, and he carries the jacket of his trainer, B. Burgess.
Mr. J. G. Alexander, of Maxwell, Wanganui; sent three yearlings to the Melbourne sales this month, all of them being by the Chief Ruler horse Rulanut." A colt from the imported mare Pebble 11, by Rock Flint, .realised 300 guineas, and a filly from imported Violet 11, by Rich Gift, Sd guineas. A filly from Kirima, by Marble Arch, was passed in at 110 guineas. . : . .. . According to a -Riccarton report, Haeretonu has been put into work again by C. McCarthy with a view to racing: during the winter. Ridden by R X Smith, he was schooled over four hurdles last week, and, although carrying some surplus condition, he gave a very encouraging display. McCarthy will have two other jumpers to represent his stable this season, Monastic and Sky Pilot, both of whom have been shaping well lately in schooling over the big fences.
