As it'was "Francis Williard Day," Francis Williard being the founder of the /W.C.T.TX, Mrs. Barrow read a specially interesting and helpful paper on her career. Honest, hard work had raised:her to the position of;being .the only woman on the staff of her university. Feeling assured that God had called -her to ..establish. the >'W.C.T.U;. she gave, up a salaried.position .to:: do it. She had a strong intellect and; a sweet character, and believed: that-so-ciety just, needed mothering and to be given faith in itself. The "Temperance; fact"; given i was that in : San; Francisco. the Methodist Church - owned: and operated a temperance: hotel, .with" 1000 rooms' splendidly appointed with';radi6: and 'telephone, and -excellent food-and; service. -The "Canberra;" the Queensland 'Temper-, arice League's :hotel. in Brisbane, could accommodate nearly 400-people;.-and also: had;-.flrst-class: food :and service. v
To obtain funds it was decided to hold a jumble sale. Members were asked to pray for,the Band of Hope during the next month. Mrs. Clarke, who has been abroad, and Mrs. Andrew, who has been touring in Australia, were welcomed back. Appreciation was expressed of Mrs. Barrow's address. A song was sung by Mrs. Turner, and Mrs. Hoult served afternoon tea.
