A FINE RACE

The world's . principal steeplechase, run each year at Aintree, Liverpool, was won today by Mr. H. Lloyd Thomas's eight-year-old gelding Royal Mail. Golden Miller started favourite, but ran out early in the race. Only seven were standing at Valentine's Brook on the second circuit. Mr. Thomas is a former secretary to the Duke of Windsor. The King and Queen watched the race and were wildly cheered on arrival at Aintree. The King saw his horse Firestone unplaced in the new handicap stakes bearing his name, but the race was kept in the family by the Earl of Harewood's horse winning. The following is the result of the GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE, of 10 soys each, 50 soys extra if left in after March 9, with 4000 soys added; second horse to receive 800 soys, third horse 500 soys, and fourth horse 200 soys from the stake. For six-year-olds and upwards, which, at entry, have been placed first, second, or third in a 'chase of three miles or upwards, value 200 soys to winner, or the equivalent in foreign distances or money, or in a 'chase of any distance at Aintree, Liverpool, or have won any 'chase of 500 soys (or the equivalent in foreign money) to the winner (selling races in every case excluded). ; H Lloyd Thomas's blk g Royal Mail, by My Prince—Flying Mail, Byrs, 11.13 (E.
