HUTT VALLEY NEWS

R.S.A. BAZAAR

(From "The Post's" Representative.) A very successful afternoon and : evening bazaar was conducted by the : Jadies" social committee of the Hutt . Valley branch of the Returned Sol- , diers' Association in the association's club rooms at Lower Hutt. Mrs. H. A. Taylor, convener of the bazaar, introduced the Mayoress, Mrs. J. W. Andrews, who spoke briefly upon . the work of the association. Twenty-three years ago, said Mrs. Andrews, the club rooms in all probability would never have accommodated the people present at such a bazaar, so keen was the patriotic feeling at thyit time. Now, with no such incentive, the ladies were carrying on an excellent work in assisting their men folk, and deserved all the support given to them. The association had continued strongly in its work for returned men since the war years, and it was to be hoped that another such club would never have to be formed. Mrs. Andrews concluded by wishing the promoters every success in their enterprise, and by form-

ally declaring the bazaar open. A presentation was made to her by Mrs. Taylor on. behalf of the social committee. The stallholders were as follows:— Produce stall, Mesdames V. Parkin and Brittell; books, Mrs. I. Taylor; knicknacks, MesSames R. Cowie and E. Woolley; novelty, Mesdames N. Dickson and W. Bentley; plain and fancy. Mesdames H. E. Edwards, E. F. Wilton) and Hamilton: sweets. Mesdames S. Weggery and R. Lstham; cakes, Mesdames J. D. Milne and S. H. Ashton; competitions, Mesdames H. A. Taylor and Robins; ice-cream, Mrs. Garrett: tea rooms. Mesdames G. F._ Page and G. P. Shand. During the evening various games; organised by Messrs Staples and H. A.^' Taylor, were added attractions.
