LONDON CLUB

HOUSE OF CITIZENSHIP

The interest which young girls are taking in social conditions today has been responsible for the forming of a club where they may learn the principles of good citizenship, states the -Daily Telegraph." Girls from the age of 18 can attend the London House of Citizenship in Bramharn Gardens, for a course of lectures on the history and government of the Empire, the local and national government of Great Britain, modern economic and social conditions and international affairs. Additional subjects such as art, music, and languages can be taken. Lectures are also given on first aid, home nursing, and anti-gas measures. The object of this is to awaken their interest in social and political problems, provide a basis for more specific training in public services, and equip women for life abroad. Twelve resident students and an unlimited number of outside students can be taken here. Among the residents are young girls from the Dominions, who are keenly interested in the affairs arid government of this and their own country, and are being taken on expeditions to see places of interest in London and the country. Each resident student has her own bed-sitting-room, with a divan bed and light oak convertible' unit furniture. Girls may entertain their own friends in the dining-room, which has little individual tables. The lectures are given in the spacious common-room 011 the first floor.
