LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

MAORI CULTURE

■ The Sealoun branch of the League |of Mothers held its first meeting for I 1937 at the kiosk, Mi's. Oliver presiding. I The large attendance of members augured well for a successful year. An induction service was held, and eleven new members were enrolled. An interesting talk was given by Mrs. H. D. Bennett on early Maori culture 'and the art of weaving. Mrs. Bennett mentioned that unfortunately the best of the Maori culture was gradually slipping away, and they were losing many of their old arts and traditions. However, steps were now being taken to revive the art of Maori weaving among the younger generation. Two appropriate Maori songs were charmingly sung by Mrs. King, also items by the choir.
