KING'S FIFTY

HIGH SCORING

MASEFIELD LEADS

NIX CLOSE UP

(From "The Post's" Special Reporter.) TRENTHAM, March 9. Weather conditions were far from ideal on the ranges today when the last three matches of the Belt series were fired, but the marksmanship was good, the leading shots only droppirig a few points, \vhen the King's jnfty was found at the end of the day W. N. Masefield (Blenheim) was in first position to defend his title tomorrow, and C. J. Nix CFeatherston) was one point away in second place. Masefield made 473 out of the possible 500, having shot consistently at all ranges. Nix made 472, and then the scores dropped to 465,.D. J. Guiney (Petone) and H. A. Cromie (Ashburton) taking third arid fourth places with equal figures. H. V. Croxton (Karori) came up to fifth place, and F. J. Soler (Wanganui), who was in second place last night, went back to sixth. Conditions were boisterous for the two single-range matches fired this afternoon, and the scoring was erratic, some of the well-established 'competitors doing well while many of the less experienced dropped back. Masefield shot well at all ranges and secured both the Australian and Bisley Aggregates, and D. J. Guiney made a great showing to move up from well down the list into third place. Guiney appeared to find the long ranges and poor conditions to his liking, as ne went ahead past many well-known marksmen. Results are:— : THE KING'S FIFTY.
