LOUIS FOX
ANOTHER RECITAL
A second recital was given last nighl by Louis Fox, the youthful but promising New Zealand violinist who, at the previous recital on Saturday nighl last; created such a good impression. The audience present in the Town Hah Concert Chamber accorded him a cordial reception, and the opinion was expressed oy some ot those wno heard Doth recitals tnat at last night's--trie youthful performer was more at his ease and piayed with greater conn dence. Be tnat as it may, there was no aoubt about last night's audience's appreciation of. the varied programme chat was presented, and the violinist thoroughly deserved the appiause which was tendered him. He snould leel encouraged to go forward and pur sue his intended course of intensive study which may ultimately lead him to the topmost rung of the ladder oi fame. Some of the items presented last night were such as tax the powers of the most experienced exponent- of the violin, but Mr. Fox, with the exuberance of youth, grappled conscientiously and successfully with their difficulties, and in most instances his interpretations would'have done credit to a performer of maturer years. "The Adelaide" Concerto in D Minor (Mozart) and the "Folies d'Espagne" Sonato for violin and piano (Corelli) were two of the major items on the programme which served to • furnish proof, if proof were, needed, that the performer was no trifler with the classics. In the latter Mr. Fox owed much to Miss Haughton for her sympathetic collaboration, as he also did to her for the accompaniments in other numbers Many of the shorter numbers were familiar concert items, but were none the less acceptable for that since each was / invested with something distinctive. They included, amongst others, "Flight of the Bumble Bee" (RimskyKorsakov), "On Wings of Song" (Men-delssohn-Achron), "La Fille aux Cheveaux de Lin" (Debussy), "Romanza Andaluza" (Sarasate), Schubert's "Aye Maria," and "Guitarre" (MoszkowskiSarasate).
