ONE-DAY TOURNEY

COUNCIL OF SPORT

The Wellington Bowling Centre met last night, the president (Mr. W. Gilbert) presiding. Lyall Bay Club was granted permission for a one-day tournament on March 15. The offer of the club to hold the presentation of prizes on its green was accepted. Permission was given the Hutt Valley tournament committee to hold the annual valley interclub contest for the McArthur Shield at Easter. Woburn Club was granted a one-day tournament on March 18. The holders of the Hill pins are Woburn Club, and the next challengers are Hataitai. The Edwin Feathers are held by Petone, and the next challengers are Porirua. Four teams were left in the senior pennant games, said the chairman, and the draw was Thorndon v. Hataitai, | and Kelburn v. Victoria, two at home and two away, to be played next Saturday. In the junior pennants Petone would play Lyall Bay on Thorn- ! don green next Saturday. i The mid-week competition was won by Kelburn Club. Mr. O. Siebery (Petone Club), the winner of the champion of champion singles, and L. M. Naylor (Thorndon Club) were congratulated. Referring to the suggestion of the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to form a National Council of Sport, the chairman said that the Centre would be only too pleased to co-operate with the New Zealand Bowling Association in any action it might take to further such ideals. Until further plans were announced on the part of the Government, it would, however, be difficult to make any concrete proposal. He was of the opinion that the sports bodies should not lean too much on the Government and municipalities for assistance, but should, as far as possible, stand on their own feet On his motion it was decided to write to the New Zealand Bowling Association offering the Centre's support to the proposed council, in any move toe association might make.
