CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS

KILBIRNIE'S LEAD SLIGHTLY REDUCED

SURPRISE OUTRIGHT WIN BY HUTT

But for an unexpected happening in the Midland-Hutt match, the Wellington senior cricket championship would have been settled definitely on Saturday afternoon in Kilbirnie's favour. As it is, Kilbirnie's lead has been reduced to eight points, which means that Hutt has a remote possibility of drawing level with Kilbirnie in the one remaining series of matches. To achieve this Hutt will require to win outright, and Kilbirnie will have to be beaten. In the matches which ended on Saturday, when conditions were fair except for a strong wind, outright wins were gained by Hutt over Midland and by Wellington College Old Boys over Institute. HuLt's full win came about through Midland (who had to follow on) declaring their second innings closed and giving Hutt the chance of making 52 runs in half an hour. Kilbirnie won on the first innings from Wellington, and University went exceedingly close to an outright win over Karori. Among the batsmen to do well were Crawford, Gates, and Tindill (Midland), A. Ashenden and Lubransky (Kilbirnie), Ell (Wellington), Briggs and M. Browne (Karori), R. McLean (Institute), and Rainbird and J. Lamason (Wellington College Old Boys). Bush. (Old Boys), Tricklebank and Ralfe (University), and O'Neill (Midland) were among the bowlers to do well, and there Avere, several who took three wickets in an innings.
