DAHLIA SHOW

In spite of the unpleasant weather experienced in Wanganui this season, the Wanganui Horticultural Society presented hundreds of exquisite blooms at the Dahlia Show held last Friday., The champion'bloom was a "Kathleen Norris," shown by Mr. C. J. Dickie, of Waverley, which also annexed the blue riband for the amateurs intermediate, and novice sections.

| The dahlia section, points prizes, was I won by A. J. Shaller and Son, of Palmerston North, who took the society's challenge cup. The Mrs. John Ballance trophy for the amateur class was won by Mr. E. G. Roddy, the intermediate class by Mr. G. R. Jones, and the novice by Mr. G. H. White. Mesdames J. Nixon and H. White won equal points in the decorative section, and Mrs. C. G. Ross, of "Letham," came first for cut flowers. Farewell Party. Mrs. J. A. Nicholls, Sedgebrook, was hostess last week at a pleasant party given in honour of Mrs. J. B. Baird, who will leave next month for England and Canada with her two small daughters. Many-hued hydrangeas were effectively used for decorating. Among the guests were Dr. Mollie Christie, Mesdames J. P. Wells, J. Clapham, Russell Scoular, E. Ziesler, J. Nixon, .J. McGregor, G. Cooke, and Miss Clapham. Personal Notes. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. Mildenhall, who have been visiting Wanganui, have returned' to Wellington. Mrs. J. Pow, of Wellington, will be the guest of honour at the annual meeting .of the Wanganui Townswomen's Guild on Wednesday. Colonel and Mrs. Pearse, of Assam, India, are visiting Mr. R. E. Beckett/ "Wairorna," Marton. Dr. and Mrs. N. S. Boag, of Blenheim, are visiting Mrs. Boag's sister, Mrs. D. Murchie, at Wanganui. The parishioners of St. Lawrence's Church, Wanganui, have recently bidden farewell to Canon and Mrs. W. G. Williams, who have left for Napier, and also welcomed the Rev. and Mrs. E. Godfrey, of Sydney, who have taken their place. Mr. Lindsay Buick, who has been visiting Wanganui during the past week, returned to Wellington on Saturday. While in Wanganui, Mr. Buick spent much time at the museum, and in visiting the sites of the museum excavations for moa bones. Mrs. I. Cadwallader, who has been competing in the Wanganui croquet tournament, returned to Wellington today.

Flight-Commander T. M. Wilkes and Mrs. Wilkes, who were in Wanganui for the North Island air pageant, returned to Wellington yesterday.
