RANGITIKEI RACES
A PRELUDE FOR TRENTHAM
A dull morning broke into bright sunshine for the Rangitikei Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Bulls on Saturday afternoon. The attendance was an excellent one, the best for several years on the course, and, despite more than the'expected number of scratchings in some of the events, the returns for the "day were well up to anticipation. The investments on the seven races totalled £9452 10s, compared with £0835 last year, an increase of £2617 10s. It was obvious from the appearance of the surrounding district that there had been fairly recent rain, but the track benefited rather than otherwise from this and was in splendid galloping order. The course has rarely looked so green at . Bulls in the autumn. A number of horses claiming engagements at Trentham this week were seen in action, and the success of Martara in winning the Rangitikei Cup under record weight for a horse of his age.was a particularly meritorious performance. Laughing Lass failed in the sprint, but as she was well surrounded on the rail most of the way excuses can be made for her and she is still liable to play a part in this week's racing, Chief Ranger, reappearing after a brief compulsory rest, finished well enough to indicate that he requires little to return to his top form. Alby, a favoured Thompson lightweight, was not produced, nor was Flammarion, one of the Railway bottom-markers.
