ORPHANS' OUTING

About 500 boys and girls from ten Wellington orphanages were treated to their annual picnic by members of the Automobile Association (Wellington) on-Saturday. In splendid weather, more than one hundred cars took the children to Maidstone Park, Upper. Hutt, where there was held a sports programme and the small guests of the association were given ice cream, sweets, and fruit. The sports resulted as follows: —

Girls under six: Daisy Hankins, 1. Boys under six: Harold Barber, 1. Girls' under 12: Ruth Barter, 1. Boys under 12: Billy Williams, 1. Girls over 12: N. Hooper, 1. Boys over 12: Jim Mather, 1. Girls' three-legged race: Dorothy Power and May Dundan, 1. Boys' three-legged race: Kelvin Ayres and Noel Daley, 1. Girls' relay race: St. Mary's Home, Karori, 1. Boys' relay race: Anglican Boys' Home, Lower Hutt, 1.
