GUIDES' GIFT

ROYAL RECIPIENT

Girl Guides of the Netherlands made a special present for the Princess Juliana on the occasion of her wedding to Prince Bernard zur Lippe Biesterfeld, states an exchange. It was a fine linen table cloth, with* doilies to match. In the centre of the cloth the world Guide flag was exquisitely embroidered •by the most skilled needlewomen which the movement had to offer, and the rest was divided into 70 squares, each worked by one ot the 70 localities in the country where guiding is established, and bearing the Dutch trefoil and the name of the locality. Guides also shared in the present-giving by the .vhole country, but they felt anxious to give some special present, because the Dutch Crown Princess had, not long before her engagement was announced, promised to become patroness of the Dutch Girl Guides. After this a joint delegation of guides and. scouts went together to offer her (lowers, as a token

of their appreciation, anc. the guide correspondent in the Netherlands, Miss Ter Meuten, described ho-v, not only did the Princess shake hands with each of them—the left hand, of coursebut took them to her rooms to show them the beautiful flowers she had there. The guide posy was very original. The president handed her a hat filled with lovely carnations. On one side a little blue flag with a tenpointed star—the guide emblem—an-i on the other a small world flag with the golden trefoil were attached. On the brim the two badges of hostess and housekeeper were shown.
