THROUGH COMMITTEE

DEFENCE LOANS BILL

NO AMENDMENTS MADE

(Received March 2, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 1. The Defence Loans Bill was passed through the committee stage in the House of Commons today without amendment. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, said he was satisfied that, there was no likelihood] of there being difficulty in the capital j market or any undue inflation in consequence of the borrowing of £400,000,000. The Opposition had underestimated the amount of the country's savings and the present tendency towards saving. The new: expenditure would itself create new savings. . I

Th~ policy of the Government remained to keep interest rates low.. He intended to get loans at reasonable rates.
