ORIENTAL BAY PAVILION
The bathing ; pavilion at : Oriental Bay: Should, within'a week or two, be ready, for:.use.. Considering the: comparatively smalt ground .area and the limitation in height so that there should not be obstruction of view from- the ■parade, the pavilion will give accommodation for a very considerable number of bathers, and, by the use of the locker system, the dressing-rooms will be kept free of "clothes and clutter. The provision for children does not appear to be on the over-generous side and on real summer • days—not this summer— the youngsters will have -not .much room to spare.
The entrance is made from- the parade by a short flight of steps to the ticket and custodian's office, on either side of which are the entrances to the men's and women's dressing rooms. Children will walk'on down passageways to right and left; the council has already decided that no charge shall be made for children.
In. the adult sections there are double rows of lockers, back to back, and racks and hooks round the walls, still.leaving a good deal of space for benches and floor room. Showers and conveniences are provided for each section. Lighting is mainly from glazing the full length of the outer semicircular wall from eye level upwards, but there are also roof lights of heavy glass: The dressing-rooms are.ventilated by ceiling vents, the covers to which form seats on theflat roof above.
■ :Frony' the dressing rooms the bathers step'down a few'feet to the beach and there'are also stairways-leading'.to-the roofP benches, tiling, and stairways' are being given a finish to stand :; up to wear arid yet remain attractive and tor - permit of rapid and thorough -cleaning. ''■■■ ;■• ::
